Machinery Row, an over 20 acre area within the 325-acre RootWorks redevelopment area in Downtown Racine, is poised for redevelopment in 2014-2015. This mixed use redevelopment area will adaptively reuse approximately 500,000 square feet of idle former manufacturing space in Racine to provide a location for businesses to locate and grow in the heart of the City, surrounded by major corporations which already employee over 5,000 people in close proximity (Case New Holland Industrial, SC Johnson, Modine, Twin Disc, and many others).
The public and private costs for the redevelopment of this significant area of Racine, located adjacent to the Root River and Downtown, are estimated at approximately $65 million. The impact of the Machinery Row District redevelopment over time will be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Execution of the RootWorks Plan – kicked off with the Machinery Row District – will provide the catalyst for rebirth of Racine’s historic industrial riverfront. This tremendous effort will improve conditions for existing employers and lay the foundation for desirable options in urban living, business development, relocation, and expansion in Downtown Racine.
